New Year’s Eve

Today is the last day of the year 2008 and it would be wonderful if this could also be the last day of all fighting and warring in the world. As we write down a list of good intentions for the next year, we could add this one wish to it and infuse it with collective energy for love and peace. It won’t take much.

At the day of the Capricorn New Moon I set up this blog to which I will add more posts in the new year. I’ve been falling a bit behind this last month due to the festive season, but I kept writing on my myspace blog, which you can read at the following URL: In the meantime, I’ll post a monthly overview for the first 2 weeks of January 2009 here. With the remaining days I will follow up soon.

A great, successful, happy, healthy and prosperous New Year 2009 to all of you!  – wishes Verena Donath.

Daily Aspect Calendar

January 1st: Mercury ingress into Aquarius at 04:51 am EST, Mercury in Aquarius square Vesta in Taurus (00+/00+)

The New Year is ushered in with Mercury’s sign change that twists the energy even more after Saturn turned just retrograde in Mercury’s sign Virgo. Since Saturn has co-rulership over Aquarius, the mutual reception of those two planets continues, only in a modulated way that grants Mercury the overhand. However, Mercury has entered his shadow phase already on December 26th, reminding us that some of the upbeat ideas we might conceive at this time will have to be revisited later on after they went through a thorough process of sorting and testing. With Mercury’s ingress into Aquarius our minds are alerted and agile. Electrified by high voltage Uranian energy our thinking can straddle the borderline between genius and madness. Mercury’s first aspect in the sign Aquarius is a square to Vesta in Taurus that challenges us to think progressively or be innovative in order to get unstuck. No doubt, we seem to have to untangle ourselves from a web of non-productive methods if we want to get to a different place with our projects this year. As the Moon in Pisces is in her Crescent Phase and will cast a sextile to the Capricorn Sun in the early evening hours, it’s a good time to take advantage of the energy that allows us to be in touch with our intuition in addition to being receptive toward higher vibrations. Thus, we should set our plan in motion instead of leaning back.

January 2nd: Mercury in Aquarius semi-sextile Pluto in Capricorn (01+/01+), Juno in Capricorn semi-sextile Neptune in Aquarius (22+/22+), Mars in Capricorn quincunx Pallas Rx in Gemini (04+/04+), Venus in Aquarius semi-sextile Jupiter in Capricorn (29+/29+)

All of these aspects belong to the Three Harmonic Series, derived by dividing the circle by twelve. They’re aspects of adjustment and complement as they represent a forced choice between two conditions, according to R. Hand in “Horoscopic Symbols”. The sign energies linked by these aspects are considered incompatible, which explains the inherent difficulty attributed to these aspects. In this case, the energies in aspect are in the elements air and earth, hinting at a dilemma between theory and practice. Apparently, being inventive doesn’t suffice; our plan must also be feasible and that includes our readiness for the task. Both of the inner planets – Mercury and Venus – are in Aquarius, casting their first aspect from another sign to the larger planets they started a new synodic cycle with last month (conjunction), which can be compared to a stirring of the seed, shaking us up from the inside to conduce to this new cycle. The changes have to begin from within to be noticed outwardly. As Juno, the symbol of our relationship principle, is also involved in such an aspect to Neptune, the theme revolves around the image we project. So, if we want to succeed, we must appear competent and professional in order to be taken seriously by others.

The Moon will still be traversing the sign Pisces all day long, whereby she will pass Uranus in the morning and oppose Saturn in the afternoon. Hypersensitive to all kinds of influences, we could feel the thrill to rush to the occasion at the time of the conjunction. Our mood could receive a damper though when the Moon will oppose Saturn later on. It’ll be important to not let pity overwhelm us, dragging us down a long, dark corridor, because the Moon’s semi-square to the North Node in Aquarius later in the evening demands from us to transcend those pessimistic inclinations to make progress possible.

January 3rd: Moon ingress into Aries at 04:49 am EST, Venus ingress into Pisces at 7:35 am EST, Sun in Capricorn trine Ceres in Virgo (13+/13+)

Venus’ ingress into Pisces, her sign of exaltation, allows us to surrender and to feel at one with the whole of existence. ‘Impregnated’ and enraptured by the divine, our senses can capture the essenc e of beauty in everything. With heigthened awareness we may come to acknowledge the fleetigness of moments. The Capricorn Sun’s trine to Ceres in Virgo signals the completion of a lesson in self-improvement, while the Moon’s Aries ingress encourages us to seek new experiences. She will square Pluto and Mars in Capricorn over the course of the day, daring us to conquer our complexes and fears; whereas her sextiles to Mercury in Aquarius, Pallas Rx in Gemini and the North Node in Aquarius will stimulate our thought process toward originality as well as permit us to focus on our advancement.

January 4th: First Quarter Moon at 14:15 Aries/Capricorn at 06:58 am EST, Venus in Pisces sextile Vesta in Taurus (00+/00+), Venus in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn (01+/01+)

The First Quarter Moon is termed “a crisis in action” when we need to overcome the pull from the past. As the waxing Aries Moon squares off the Capricorn Sun, the challenge is to begin anew after a failed attempt. Venus in Pisces’ sextiles to Vesta in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn, who are about to perfect their final trine, paint this as an opportunity for our empowered spirit to find fulfilment in creative endeavors, fueled by the outpouring of our rounded up, fine-tuned talents. It seems as though we’re approaching the end of a lengthy phase of establishing a platform for the cause we’ve been involved with, have invested in and have dedicated our time, energy and effort toward. There’s a silver lining forming now, indicated by the sextiles, opening channels of opportunity streaming out of the trine, daring us to follow our dream and encouraging us to not lose our faith.

January 5th: Jupiter ingress into Aquarius at 10:45 am EST, Moon ingress into Taurus at 10:45 am EST, Mercury in Aquarius semi-square Uranus in Pisces (04+/19+), Mercury in Aquarius trine Pallas Rx in Gemini (04+/04+)

Jupiter’s Aquarius ingress in tandem with the Moon’s Taurus ingress has the potential to turn us into proselytes, thereby filling us with hope and renewed belief. This shift signifies furthermore a period where we can expand upon our individualistic tendencies, extend our group participation and find meaning in our social purpose. Now that both, the lower and the higher mind, are under the influence of Uranian energies, sparks of insight could lead to many aha-moments, speeding up our thinking process and inspire our brains in a multitude of ways. Mercury’s semi-square to Uranus in Pisces and trine to Pallas Rx in Gemini will tickle already taut nerves to the point of mental breakthrough that will reveal a handy solution.

January 6th: Mars in Capricorn semi-square Neptune in Aquarius (07+/22+)

A semi-square hints at some form of resistance that needs to be pushed out of the way. Mars, the planet associated with action, engaged in such an aspect to Neptune, the planet correlated to inaction or undoing, can be interpreted as a call to take the next step toward realization of our vision. Over the course of the day, will the Moon in Taurus cast trines to Ceres in Virgo and to the Sun in Capricorn, followed up by a square to Chiron in Aquarius and a sextile to Uranus in Pisces. Thus, yin and yang are perfectly aligned, allowing our creative juices to flow into our projects in a steady and concrete manner in order to get things done. Later in the day though, feelings of inadequacy could arise or disorientation could block our progress. If we can avoid getting distracted, there’s a chance we can still move ahead with our plan.

January 7th: Venus in Pisces square Pallas Rx in Gemini (04+/04+), Moon ingress into Gemini at 01:11 pm EST, Eris stations direct at 20:41 Aries at 02:59 pm EST

Venus’ square to Pallas shows an inner struggle that needs to be resolved. In Pisces, Venus could stand for undermined self-esteem, whereas Pallas Rx in Gemini resembles a dualistic mental strategy. Our task would be to stop any negative thoughts we might have and to listen to the positive vibrations coming our way instead. Everything else will just confuse us and hold us back. With the Moon’s ingress into Gemini our mood can become lighter, while we might feel chattier and more easy-going. Her trine to Jupiter in Aquarius could awake our inquisitiveness and stim us optimistic. Eris’ direct station adds another shift to the energy pattern that contributes to the emergence of our identic Self.

January 8th: Mercury in Aquarius sesqui-quadrate Saturn Rx in Virgo (06+/21+), Venus in Pisces semi-square Eris in Aries (05+/20+), Sun in Capricorn semi-sextile Chiron in Aquarius (18+/18+)

The situation has reached a critical point, where we have to come to terms with ourselves and can’t any longer hide our true Self away. There is a subtle, but genuine distinction between selflessness and sacrifice of which we might not be aware of. Most likely, this is based on us being afraid to appear selfish or ego-driven. But the reality is that we’re living and have our existence in a competitive environment that demands from us to fight for our piece of the pie. Still, the choice is always ours to play a fair game. As the Gemini Moon will make a series of tense aspects to energies connected to our higher purpose in addition to a trine to Chiron in Aquarius, we need to acknowledge both sides of the coin. Eventually, we will conclude that we don’t have to beat others, but to emulate their example of what we consider to be worthwhile.

January 9th: Sun in Capricorn sesqui-quadrate Pallas Rx in Gemini (19+/04+), Vesta in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn (01+/01+), Sun in Capricorn sextile Uranus in Pisces (19+/19+), Moon ingress into Cancer at 01:13 pm EST

Indeed, the road to transformation is an arduous and long path of many trials and tests. We’ve arrived at a destination finally, after we followed a line of thought that would bring us there. It’s about taking the right turn when the circumstances call for it without losing sight of the goal. Realizing our own role in the scheme of things is the prerequisite for individual differentiation and thus for figuring out which strategy works best for us. With the Moon’s ingress into Cancer, opposition to Pluto and sextile to Vesta, we may need emotional support after this ordeal. There could be a thirst for spiritual renewal and nourishment that causes us to seek protection underneath our shell, where we can replenish our source.

January 10th: Mercury in Aquarius semi-sextile Venus in Pisces (07+/07+), Sun in Capricorn square Eris in Aries (20+/20+), Full Moon at 21:02 Cancer/Capricorn at 10:26 pm EST

The uneasy aspect between the inner planets Mercury and Venus speaks of an attitude adjustment resultant from the stressful aspect between the Sun and Eris that is a test regarding the strength of our character. As this happens at the Full Moon phase of the lunation cycle, inner and outer are pitted against each other along the parental axis, assigned to the maternal and paternal archetypes.

For the Moon at 21:02 Cancer the Sabian Symbol states:

“A young woman awaiting a sailboat. Keynote: The longing for transcendent happiness in the soul opened to great dreams – EXPECTANCY.”

For the Sun at 21:02 Capricorn the Sabian Symbol states:

“By accepting defeat gracefully, a general reveals nobility of character. Keynote: The realization that one may grow through defeat as well as, and perhaps more than, through success – INNER STRENGTH.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Pages 125 and 242-243, respectively)

The maternal pole in this case is “pregnant” with hope; eagerly anticipating a desired future condition. But for this vision to come true the paternal pole has to be developed to a point of “excellence” in form of an outstanding personality. As this process unfolds, which is the integration of the maternal with the paternal, the ego grows weaker, paling in the background, while the Self is slowly coming to the fore (the “second” birth). This is how the “MEDIATORSHIP”, the keynote of the Capricorn New Moon, the new quality of being (mouthpiece of a god), finds fulfilment. By conquering our natural limitations, such as instinctual drives and ego needs, we contribute to our spiritual achievement and thus to the cause of our society. Great exemplars among us have the potential to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

January 11th: Ceres stations retrograde at 13:35:49 Virgo at 08:05 am EST, Mercury stations retrograde at 07:45:23 Aquarius at 11:43:36 am EST, Sun in Capricorn trine Saturn Rx in Virgo (21+/21+), Moon ingress into Leo at 12:40 pm EST

Shortly after the culmination of the lunation cycle will Ceres turn retrograde in Virgo and Mercury turn retrograde in Aquarius and subsequently, these energies will have more impact on the inside from now on. Ceres’ retrogradation will last until April 12, 2009 when she will have reached 00:24:21 Virgo and Mercury’s retrogradation will end on February 1, 2009 at 21:45:07 Capricorn. His shadow period though will extend to February 21, 2009. Thus, a phase of introspection and inner nurturing will begin now. To be efficient and in synch with the spirit of the times we need to serve the Self as well as to self-improve. The Capricorn Sun’s trine to Saturn Rx in Virgo indicates that the ground is prepared and also fertilized for this undertaking; whereas the Moon’s Leo ingress, opposition to Jupiter in Aquarius and square to Vesta in Taurus lay the emphasis on the inner child that’s in need of more attention on its way to individuation in order to keep the fire at the core burning.

January 12th: Jupiter in Aquarius semi-sextile Pluto in Capricorn (01+/01+), Sun in Capricorn semi-sextile Neptune in Aquarius (22+/22+)

These two complementary aspects could represent the answer to a question we might have about the sphere of our influence that might have had us wondering and guessing how well we are connected to the rest of humanity and if our performance impresses and inspires responsiveness. As the Leo Moon will also oppose Chiron in Aquarius, a confrontation of a wound regarding our sense of Self seems to be inevitable. As always, the solution lies within and could involve a wrong belief we’ve been holding onto.

January 13th: Moon ingress into Virgo at 01:32 pm EST

When the Moon ingresses Virgo we feel more health conscious and seek perfection in all areas of our life. Her trines to Pluto in Capricorn and Vesta in Taurus could get us in touch with our psychic and etheric bodies and establish a tangible connection, which could give us the right idea in reference to the “repair of our soul” simultaneously with the Moon’s square to Pallas Rx in Gemini.

January 14th: Mars in Capricorn trine Ceres Rx in Virgo (13+/13+), Pallas stations direct at 04:00:07 Gemini at 02:50 pm EST

A trine indicates completion of some sorts. Therefore, we could have mastered an inner growth phase for which we could reap the rewards now outwardly as Pallas stations direct in Gemini, appointing a revised mental strategy. As the Virgo Moon will oppose Venus in Pisces, form a conjunction with Ceres and trine Mars in Capricorn, she offers occasion to release our sorrows and worries in a last sigh, to inhale a breath of fresh air and move on cleansed and invigorated.

January 15th: Venus in Pisces semi-square Juno in Capricorn (12+/27+), Moon ingress into Libra at 05:29 pm EST

It’s critical now to approach our relationships with more backbone as suggested by Venus in Pisces’ semi-square to Juno in Capricorn. All we need to realize is that we’ve got what it takes without having to be perfect. No master ever fell from heaven is a German proverb we could use as our mantra. Prior to her Libra ingress will the Moon, still in Virgo, cast two closing trines – one to the Sun and one to Juno in Capricorn. This ascertains us of a sense of accomplishment bestowed upon us that could set us in a socializing mood and consequently, we might wish to connect and interact with others. However, it would be advisable to not share too much due to a square forming between the Libra Moon and Pluto in Capricorn that’s succeeded by the Moon’s trine to Jupiter in Aquarius, which promises a great time.

January 16th: Venus in Pisces opposite Ceres Rx in Virgo (13+/13+)

An opposition calls for integration of the conflicting energies. Venus in Pisces implies that something is undermining our evaluation, while Ceres Rx in Virgo refers to the need for a thorough analysis. Thus, there seems to be a flaw in our perception of the situation that requires correction. The Libra Moon’s trine to the North Node in Aquarius later in the morning could translate into a revelation that assists us by solving the problem.

January 17th: Mercury Rx in Aquarius semi-square Uranus in Pisces (04+/19+), Mercury Rx in Aquarius trine Pallas in Gemini (04+/04+), Juno in Capricorn sesqui-quadrate Ceres Rx in Virgo (28+/13+), Third Quarter Moon at 28:08 Libra/Capricorn at 09:45 pm EST

Mercury’s aspects inspire brainstorming and idea output as a result of a state of inner tension and release, indicated by the Libra Moon’s opposition to Eris in Aries and trine to Neptune in Aquarius. A strenous aspect between Juno and Ceres adds pressure to deliver. We could be desperately trying to meet an expiring timeline, which could cause us to stay up late and to work on the last details, especially in the event of the late Last Quarter Moon, signifying a “crisis in consciousness”. In its waning quarter phase, the Libra Moon squares the Capricorn Sun, thereby representing us with a contract challenge regarding the plan we’ve started out with. It’s now time to take on the role and position of “mediator”.

All experience of life is cyclic. The lunation cycle is the archetype of all cycles of relationship and thus the most basic natural tool for time-management. At each New Moon a new impulse is sounding forth to which we can attune in order to participate consciously in the organic rhythm of life. As this new lunation fell shortly after the winter solstice, it reveals the upcoming trends for the year 2009, a universal year number 2 with the focus on cooperation.

In the lunation chart the energies are concentrated in the sign Capricorn. This stellium continues into the succeeding sign Aquarius. A steady climb uphill based on viable structural organization and system overhaul is notable. The introduction of new regulations and systems of checks and balances will be inevitable. By strengthening these institutional foundations in society in the same way as individuals will support their backbone and master their life via personal ambitions, integrity and competence, we can see a trend toward change operating and permeating the entire social network. It’s about getting down to business and dealing with everything life will throw at us in a realistic, feasible, methodical, problem-solving manner as indicated by Saturn’s and Ceres’ placement in Virgo.

The Sabian Symbol pertaining to the zodiacal degree highlighted by the Capricorn New Moon states: “A veiled prophet speaks, seized by the power of a god. Keynote: The ability to act as a mouthpiece for the revelation of a transcendent will and truth determining future action – Mediatorship.” (Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Pages 233-234)

This sums it up neatly. Energies will be mobilizied to improve, upgrade  and downsize- whether personally or what society at large concerns. The economy has become our number one priority and as this happens our resources will come up for re-evalution; the environment will finally take a front seat and the workforce will struggle throughout this process. Consequently, the majority of the population will have to make lifestyle changes to make ends meet. But a new day is already dawning upon us. “Change we can believe in” is not just a political slogan, it can be considered to be “the revelation of a transcendent will and truth determining future action”. A new age has new prophets and our current era in history will be defined by the Pluto in Virgo generation – the world-servers. With the arrival of Pluto in Capricorn a social movement received tremendous empowerment, whereby the first of the Saturn-Uranus oppositions marked a moment of triumph in this regard. As a new brand of leaders enters the world stage a new quality of “conducting the political business” becomes evident. By bringing all people to the table, listening to differing opinions, using conciliatory rhetorik and trying to find a way in the middle that unites instead of divides, a first step has been undertaken toward progress and to leave the rigid, aggressive, destructive tactics related to the ‘tribal laws’ of the patriarchy behind. It will take a long time though to succeed, because the mindset ruled by fear and complexes is still predominant of which we just got a sad example in form of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Our lunation chart contains another remarkable feature – a partile square between Juno in Capricorn and Eris Rx in Aries that clearly points to a challenge derived from an inner state of disharmony that seeks strife for strife’s sake in the way we relate to others. “As within so without.” And this way is the OLD way as indicated by Juno in Capricorn. The Venus-Neptune conjunction in Aquarius that perfected with the event of the Capricorn lunation is an invitation to follow a higher path; the path of forgiveness and unpossessive, all-encompassing love emanating from the heart. For this to transpire, our ideologies have to be transcended by the one universal truth that states that love and ultimately compassion is the energy of spirit, powering the universe, as everything in this holistic vision is a reflection of the divine.

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog!

My topic is astrology, which I’ve been studying for the last 8 years. By writing this it feels like an awful long time, but I still haven’t reached the end of it and I never will, because life is so rich and manifold in its expressions and variations that there’s always something new to be learnt. Though I’ve been drawn to the mystical, otherworldly and occult since I can remember, I wasn’t aware that this was actual a quest for my own Holy Grail, because the spiritual wasn’t part of my early life as I was born and raised in a predominantly materialistic culture, where these things were ridiculed. But my journey led me to the North American continent for which I had to cross an ocean – literally and metaphorically. With the flyers came an ad for a correspondence course in astrology/parapsychology for which I readily signed up as it spurred my curiosity. From there on I was hooked and wanted to know more. As soon as my personal circumstances allowed it, I enrolled as a student at the OCA, where I completed the whole curriculum, except for the ethics course plus one elective. During this time, I was also an instructor at this institution and accepted the post of the media director for one year. At that time, I began to blog and to write monthly newsletter columns. Meanwhile, both of my blogs – Astrological Energy-Weather and Shifting Realities – have been added to the Astrology Blogger Directory. To my readers I’d like to say Thank You for bearing with me. I hope you enjoy the journey.
