Lunar Phases and Energy Shifts in January 2011

  • ·         January 3: Ceres ingress into Aquarius at 9:41 am EST

This transit will last until March 21 and corresponds to a period during which we will commit ourselves to our social purpose and circle, group activities and networking and the process of individualization, thereby supporting our social creativity and individuating tendencies. Accompanied by Pallas’ conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn, the Sun in Capricorn’s semi-square to Chiron in Aquarius and Vesta in Sagittarius’ sextile to Saturn in Libra, this shift will have us focusing on establishing influence, while seeking to shake self-imposed limitations, which will result in us being more enterprising and enthusiastic about our relationship goals and ambitions.

  • ·         January 4: Partial Solar Eclipse at 13:38 Capricorn at 4:02 am EST

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon, Earth and Sun align with the nodal axis and the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth’s view of the Sun. If they don’t line up perfectly and the Moon covers only part of the Sun, taking ‘a bite out of it’, while sweeping only through the penumbra, a partial eclipse of the Sun is seen, whereby the Sun’s light is dimmed to varying degrees. Things that have been eclipsed in the area of our life, represented by the house in our natal chart, where the Eclipse has an impact, have now a chance to be brought into the light of conscious awareness, thereby triggering individual and collective transitions, marked by endings and new beginnings. An Eclipse theme can last for up to half a year and longer. According to Celeste Teal in her book Eclipses: “As a guideline, it is generally recommended to avoid initiating major decisions or drastic life changes near the time of an Eclipse. The state of flux and initial charge of energy coming into the atmosphere tend to destabilize new ventures.”

Eclipses belong to a larger pattern; each Eclipse is a member of a family and each family has specific characteristics. The current Solar Eclipse is a member of the Saros Series 13 North, which means the Capricorn New Moon/Solar Eclipse is conjunct the North Node of the Moon, a point of intake of new energy, signifying new beginnings and offering new stimuli. This Saros Series was the last time around in December 1992 (expect a theme repeat) and has the Node at the New Moon/Mars midpoint (the meeting point of Eclipse potential/new beginning and intentions/actions = future prospects), Pluto at the Mars/Node midpoint (the meeting point of motives/actions and life direction = empowerment) and the New Moon = Venus (new beginning = validation), for which Bernadette Brady gives the following interpretation:

“This is an Eclipse family of groups and associations. Its energy is about large, ambitious group projects. These group projects will require a separation or the breaking of a bond that already exists. The individual may well experience this eclipse initially as a separation and then as joint achievement.” (Bernadette Brady, “Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark”, Appendices 326).

The Eclipse will happen in an Earth sign over which Saturn in Libra rules and will therefore affect the symmetry and arrangement of structures, foundations and institutions, the rules of engagement and regulations of and within governing bodies, communities, municipalities, the executive branch, industry, business, organizations and between authority figures, leaders, elders and adults. Emphasis will be furthermore on accountability, balance of control, management and responsibilities as well as on civility, mannerisms and codes of conduct. With an Eclipse in an Earth sign there is moreover a heightened chance of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mudslides and avalanches.

Aspects reaching completion that day are the third and final of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions (the first one was on June 8 on the Aries Point and the second one on September 18, 2010 at 28+ Pisces) in trine with Venus in Scorpio with the latter also square Neptune in Aquarius, the ruler of Pisces. Resultant from an evolved approach that challenges us into heightened awareness of the complex psychological entanglements and delicate intricacies of our desire nature, triggered by realizations regarding core values and revealing insights about patterns of responses , a synthesis of truths, concepts and ideologies has been achieved. In-depth assessment is required to remove uncertainties, insecurities and false hopes. Complicated situations need to be resolved with clarity of vision and in line with higher values and ideals. Therefore, plotting our next steps and laying out plans and strategies to meet our goals and to strengthen or further our influence must be carried out with mindfulness as well as in full awareness of the implications and repercussions of our intents, yet in concert with our interests (Mercury in Sagittarius is trine Eris Rx in Aries and Pallas is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn in the Eclipse chart).

The Sabian Symbol pertaining to the zodiacal degree highlighted by the Eclipse/Capricorn New Moon states:

“An ancient bas-relief carved in granite remains a witness to a long-forgotten culture. Keynote: The will to unearth in our culture as well as in any culture what has permanent value and to let go of nonessentials – HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Page 237-238)

Understanding what is truly important in long-term view and where we need to focus on will help us to make the right choices as we orient us toward the future and follow our vision, thereby releasing unrealistic expectations or projections and leaving the things behind that belong in the past, taking with us only that, which is necessary for our further growth and development.

  • ·         January 7: Venus ingress into Sagittarius at 7:30 am EST

This transit will last until February 4 and corresponds to a time of increased self-worth, growing appreciation and greater responsiveness when we approach the outside world with optimism, zeal and purpose. The Sun in Capricorn’s square to Saturn in Libra that day emphasizes the pressure that will be triggering a stronger sense of Self-responsibility and Self-respect to be able to manage our life from a stable and firm personal foundation.

  • ·         January 12: First Quarter Moon at 21:54 Aries/Capricorn at 06:31 am EST

The crisis in action, associated with the First Quarter Moon, is a test of motivation and courage that challenges us to mobilize our drive and to take up the initiative in order to set things in motion. Other aspects reaching perfection that day are Mars in Capricorn’s sextile to Uranus in Pisces, Jupiter in Pisces’ semi-sextile to Chiron in Aquarius, Venus in Sagittarius’ semi-sextile to Pluto in Capricorn and Mercury in Sagittarius’ last-degree square to Juno in Virgo. It’s time to take the necessary steps and measures to instigate long-envisioned changes and end a hopeless situation that has been dragging on for too long to be able to leave circumstances which we have outgrown, thereby using an uncompromising approach and more efficient relationship principles based on what we’ve learnt and can no longer ignore, knowing that we must be doing something about it.

  • ·         January 13: Mercury ingress/re-entry into Capricorn at 06:24 am EST

This transit will last until February 3 and corresponds to a period during which our thought process is more structured, organized and grounded in reality, permitting us to work out schedules and agendas as well as to focus on the practical and feasible. It’s also a time when we can form strong and lasting connections or strengthening existing ones. Mars in Capricorn’s semi-sextile to Chiron in Aquarius and sextile to Jupiter in Pisces that day suggests that firm intentions will stand behind our causes and projects, pushing objectives and underpinning principles and work ethics.

  • ·         January 15: Mars ingress into Aquarius at 05:41 pm EST

Preceding his Aquarius ingress, Mars in Capricorn will form a last-degree trine with Juno in Virgo, indicating that we’ve set our intentions and have taken concrete steps to improve the ways we interact and relate. This transit will last until February 23 and corresponds to a period of specialized activity when we are motivated by our inspiration, social purpose and circle, and intent on individualizing, liberating, reforming and changing. Mercury’s conjunction with the North Node in Capricorn that day implies that we’ll be firmly focusing on the achievement of our future prospects.

  • ·         January 19: Full Moon at 29:27 Cancer/Capricorn at 04:21 pm EST
  • ·         January 19: Juno stations retrograde at 29:41 Virgo at 3:40 pm EST (turns direct May 2, 2011 at 14:40 Virgo)

Juno stations retrograde in the last degree of Virgo as the Capricorn lunation cycle culminates, which begins a phase of reviewing our relationship principles for their effectiveness and of reconstructing the dynamics underlying them that happens in sync with a confrontation regarding issues of co-dependency and self-reliance. With the Sun-Moon opposition in productive aspects to Jupiter in Pisces and Juno Rx in Virgo, we can take advantage of opportunities to resolve conflicts of interests in this context, while setting up the necessary steps to improve our interrelations and toward realization of our mission. Mars in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to the North Node in Capricorn is indicative of an adjustment of our specific intentions for individualization with our life direction goals.

The Sabian Symbol for the Cancer Moon states:

“A daughter of the American Revolution. Keynote: The prestige and conservatism of a long-maintained heritage – GLORIFICATION OF THE PAST.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Capricorn Sun states:

“A secret meeting of men responsible for executive decisions in world affairs. Keynote: The power to assume responsibility for crucial choices arrived at after mature discussions with those who share this power – EXECUTIVE POWER.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Pages 130 and 248)

  • ·         January 20: Sun ingress into Aquarius at 05:18 am EST

This corresponds to a time when we seek to differentiate and individualize, to express our originality and uniqueness and seek affirmation through our social creativity. Accompanied by Juno Rx in Virgo’s opposition to Jupiter in Pisces and Pallas in Capricorn’s semi-square to Neptune in Aquarius, this energy shift brings awareness to the options we have in our interchanges with others and which beliefs stand in our way or holding us back from achieving our vision in this context.

  • ·         January 22: Jupiter ingress/re-entry into Aries at 12:11 pm EST

This transit will last until June and corresponds to a period during which we will embark on a journey to start a new chapter in our life with renewed faith and enthusiasm, based on re-envisioned objectives and an emergent awareness of possibilities. A strong sense of mission and purpose will drive our enterprising spirit, while we forge ahead convinced of the righteousness of our actions and intend on spreading our wings and truths. Aspects reaching perfection that day are the Sun in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to the North Node in Capricorn and Mercury in Capricorn’s semi-square to Neptune in Aquarius, implying an adjustment to the life direction meant to further our individual cause backed by firm decisiveness to realize our dreams.

  • ·         January 26: Third Quarter Moon at 06:12 Scorpio/Aquarius at 7:57 am EST
  • ·         January 26: Saturn stations retrograde at 17:13 Libra at 01:09 am EST (turns direct on June 13, 2011 at 10:26 Libra)

This crisis in consciousness, associated with the Last Quarter Moon, will be testing our social influence, how empowered and in control we feel in group situations and when we’re expressing our social creativity and individuality. With Saturn stationing retrograde that day a period of inner structuring and stabilization begins that leads to a reassessment of our authority. Mercury in Capricorn’s square to Saturn Rx in Libra and the Sun in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to Pluto in Capricorn show our struggling will, while we try to maintain our integrity and remain detached under the pressure of forces beyond our control.

  • ·         January 28: Vesta ingress into Capricorn at 06:13 pm EST

This transit will last until April 2 and corresponds to a period during which we will devote us toward structuring, organizing and managing, investing our energy into practical, productive and constructive things. Mars’ conjunction to Ceres in Aquarius that day implicates that our commitment will be stimulated by the will to individualize and advance and to begin a cycle of inspired Self-assertion.

Astro-Notes on December 24, 2010 – Merry Christmas

Today, the Sun is passing over the North Node in Capricorn, while the Moon traverses Leo, the Sun’s sign of rulership. As the Sun shines his light on our life’s direction, we might take steps to Self-realize through organizing and managing our tasks in a way that gives expression to our creativity. Because this conjunction falls into my 4th house and is conjunct natal Lilith, I’ve been busy since the early morning with household chores since J came home yesterday night, unloading his laundry and leaving his trails everywhere. I’ve been used (or spoiled) the last couple of weeks of not having him around, which provided me with a time of peaceful sleep, peaceful mornings and peaceful evenings – something my Venus in Libra and Moon in Pisces cherish. But with Lilith getting a visit from the Sun every year on this day, it’s usually a less than glorious day. Though this too shall pass. Having drawn the Tarot card “9 of Pentacles” for today it can only get better as this card is associated with contentment, self-sufficiency and solid sensual pleasure. Tomorrow might look a lot different already. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be spending the day with my daughter. That is the true gift of Christmas. 🙂

This year’s holiday season had quite a few gifts in store for me, for which I’m incredibly grateful. Not only was I blessed with harmonious surroundings I decorated for the first time since we’ve moved into this house and which in addition to the quietude make this space so enjoyable, but I also had the opportunity to go Christmas shopping with my daughter and the good fortune to have her participate in my sacred circle we held in my home on the day of the Lunar Eclipse and Winter Solstice. It was truly a culmination of events that have been in the making for a while now and at the same time the birth of a great venture. My best friends here, Angie (the high-spirited Earth Ambassador) and Diane (the outstanding voice of the spiritworld), joined the circle and brought 2 more lightworkers – Melissa and Cynthia – while I had the ‘lightbringer’ on my side on this darkest day and longest night of the year. Lucia, my daughter’s name, is derived from Latin and means “Light”. Saint Lucia day is observed on December 13 and celebrated all over Europe, in particular in Scandinavia, in a procession of in white robes clad girls carrying lit candles, which symbolizes the light overcoming darkness.

So, our circle and seeding of the Christ consciousness was very successful and represented a climax in regard to the power of spiritual ancestry found in the enduring power of occult knowledge and it’s quasi-divine custodians that was portrayed in the symbol of The great pyramid and the sphinx (Sabian Symbol for the Sagittarius New Moon). Our circle began with an introduction into the astrology and symbology of this special event, followed by an absolutely beautiful poem, written by Angie on the morning of this special day, a burning ritual in my basement that ended with us carrying the container with the burning candles outside, where the fire went out in a huge uprising flame directly under the Full Moon, and a PYRAMID MEDITATION as the finale, conducted by the master of the art, the very talented Diane, who didn’t know anything about the symbology beforehand, but got instructed by her guide Father in that sense, from whom we each got a personal message. Thank you spirits!

Thus, we, the faithful, were truly counting the blessings bestowed upon us (Sabian Symbol for the Sun at the time of the Full Moon) during this sacred circle, to which we all contributed by displaying our talents and gifts (meaning of the Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon). This didn’t happen without overcoming a few hurdles first though at the stage of the First Quarter Moon that was accompanied by the powerful lineup of Mercury Rx, Mars and Pluto on the North Node in Capricorn and referred to the question: Deal-maker or deal-breaker? Ample evidence of this setup was provided by the American president’s struggle with the tax cuts and also by Wikileaks editor-in-chief’s fight for bail. What our sacred circle concerned, it was at first the weather in form of enormous snow masses and blocked roads that put everything up in the air, so to speak, and then a phone call that told Angie about a planned family gathering that was at first supposed to happen on that very day, but was later on moved to the next one. 🙂

In many instances, it was a deal-maker – just not what my intentions for this blog concerned. With all the stuff going on, the organizing and preparing I had to do on top of chart work and sending out season’s greetings – none of which btw. have reached their destinations yet – courtesy of Mercury retrograde – I had to execute according to priority. However, much like the American Congress did I manage to make great strides and accomplish a lot during these last couple of weeks due to permitting myself again the guilty pleasure of coffee, which is a life elixir for me I had to forgo for the last half year due to a health condition. It seems to agree with me, because it is a special blend I bought in Angie’s store that is low in acid. The super premium beans of this blend have been carefully aged during the monsoon season in India to produce this uniquely low acid, nutty flavoured coffee.

To all my readers and friends I wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS  and a wonderful holiday season filled with love, light and laughter.

Astro-Notes on December 7, 2010 – checkmate

The Tarot card I drew for December 3rd was the “4 of Swords”, also known as the “Lord of Truce”, coming with the advice to look at the bigger picture and clarify our view of the situation. Vesta made ingress into Sagittarius that day, Mars in Sagittarius was sextile Chiron in Aquarius and square Uranus Rx in Pisces and Mercury in conjunction with the North Node (True Position), which expressed that statement pretty well in astrological terms. And in sync with these aspects did WikiLeaks move to Switzerland (Sagittarius is related to ‘wanderlust’ and places ‘where the grass is greener’), which enabled them to go back online and resume their publishing activities, providing a perfect example for Mars’ aspects to Chiron and Uranus, but Uranus was approaching his station and that was when things changed and took turns and twists as for instance that the account would be canceled and Mr. Assange would be stripped of a key fundraising tool (paypal). So, this was in fact just a truce, and a temporary, short one, for this matter, but the message has larger implications with Mercury conjunct the North Node in Capricorn, the sign of the government. The ‘internationality’ that has been brought into the picture via the Sagittarian connections has dissolved in front of our eyes (Sagittarius’ ruler Jupiter is in Pisces – the sign ruled by Neptune, the universal solvent) and what has been revealed is a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT (Capricorn) as suddenly the Swiss privileges and international protections (or liberties if you will) don’t seem to apply anymore. Mercury, the messenger, firmly proclaimed via his conjunction to the North Node that this is where we are heading and that in fact a new world order is in place already.

On December 5th, the day of the Sagittarius New Moon, when Uranus stationed direct in Pisces and Mercury met Pluto in conjunction, while Venus in Scorpio formed a sextile to the NN, the U.S. government warned Fed workers and future diplomats to stay away from leaked cables, citing as their reason that these are still considered classified, a move that is descriptive of a measure of absolute control and which reminded me of the allegory about the 3 apes – one of them is covering his eyes, the other one his ears and the third one his mouth, symbolizing ignorance in form of blindness, deafness and silence to the problems and issues surrounding them. For this day I had drawn “The Emperor reversed”, indicating seeming powerlessness, ineffectiveness and that dealings with authorities are fraught with difficulties. This card is relevant for the duration of the entire lunation cycle and very befitting for the attempted coercion meant to enforce the ‘3-Apes-Rule’. Other news that made headlines on this day were about a SWAT team taking over Eastern Island, showing images of natives bleeding from the impact of the ammunition fired on them as they demonstrated to get their land back that has been greatly benefited from tourism due to the famous sculptures erected there. With Uranus stationing, the energy associated with individual rights, freedoms and liberties had been concentrated and the pace of events accelerated, supposed to shake us up from our sleep (or state of ignorant bliss – Pisces) to realize that these things have been dissolved as well.  The Sabian Symbol for the Sagittarius New Moon stated: “The great pyramid and the sphinx.” Symbols of a great mystery, they have captured our fascination throughout the ages. It is no coincidence then that reports surfaced about new discoveries surrounding these structures, which are actually old ‘myths’ or truths that have been doomed conspiracy theories, while in fact the leading elite of our scientists was not willing to admit that ‘the secrets’ enshrined there could reveal a different past than the one indoctrinated to us. But the time of revelation is upon us and the true conspiracies are now coming to light as Mercury dances with Pluto in the vicinity of the North Node in the sign of the ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. As we find ourselves in these seemingly powerless circumstances – dominated, controlled, suppressed and silenced – these ancient symbols remind us of the power of knowledge. Julian Assange has showed us that we have the right to know for which he might have to pay the price as he’s now being held without even being charged, while he’s also being denied bail – Guantanamo-style.

The renegade WikiLeaks editor-in-chief arranged to meet with UK police after an arrest warrant had been handed to Scotland Yard on December 6 when Pallas in Sagittarius squared Jupiter in Pisces. Increased international pressure tactics led to his surrender and he has been arrested today with the Sagittarius Sun in sextile to Saturn in Libra. I drew the “Death” card for today, which signifies the ending of a cycle. It may not have been the smartest decision he made as he is the ‘enemy of the state’ and more serious charges are likely to come with Mars’ ingress into Capricorn (government enacting), but the world is watching and a great number of people are already calling the BS that’s being sold to them by a corporate interest controlled media (Mercury-Pluto).  It will be interesting to watch this story unfold when Mercury will travel back and forth over these degrees. Also of interest is that U.S. President Obama too caved in in order to reach a tax deal, another Mercury-Pluto issue. The last word might not have been spoken in this matter either. For him, the end justifies the means or rather the compromises, such as broken promises (Pallas square Jupiter). The strategies of the courtroom he’s used to fail to resolve this issue satisfactorily. Death in form of checkmate.

Astro-Notes on December 2, 2010 – Pranksters

Today, Vesta in Scorpio, symbolizing the ‘wicked’, sinful spirit, formed a semi-square to Saturn in Libra, who represents the rules of engagement, from the last degree of Scorpio that was highlighted by the Sun’s position opposite the Moon at the Full Moon event, which is bestowed with the Sabian Symbol “Children in Halloween customs indulge in various pranks”. Consequently, a few ‘Pranksters’, after displaying their inherited gifts (Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 29+ Taurus), have to deal with the consequences of their actions as they are being held accountable in these cases:

Veteran Rep. Charles Rangel, the raspy-voiced, backslapping former chairman of one of Congress’ most powerful committees, was censured by his House colleagues for financial misconduct Thursday in a solemn moment of humiliation in the sunset of his career (truly a ‘consummation’ – keynote for the Full Moon at 29+ Taurus).

  • Nigeria’s anti-corruption police said on Thursday they planned to file charges against former Vice President Dick Cheney in a $180 million bribery case involving a former unit of oil services firm Halliburton (finally they got something on this guy, nicknamed Darth Vader).
  • Leaders of the Senate intelligence committee called on Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday evening to prosecute WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on espionage charges. The former computer hacker has embarrassed the U.S. government and foreign leaders with his online leak of a huge trove of secret American diplomatic cables. Thursday marked day five of the release of classified documents (too bad for this whistleblower).

Another aspect that perfected today was the sextile between Mars in Sagittarius and Neptune in Aquarius, which implies that the law is catching up with those ‘masked figures’. While one of them has been publicly humiliated, the former VP of the U.S. will most likely get a chance to escape, whereas the ‘leaker’ didn’t take any chances, especially after the threats he received, and is in hiding.

Lunar Phases and Energy Shifts in December 2010

  • December 3: Vesta ingress into Sagittarius at 02:27 am EST

This transit will last until January 28, 2011 and corresponds to a period during which we will be devoted toward greatness, driven by an enterprising spirit and ‘religiousness’ for that which we hold sacred. We will be energized by our faith, convictions and principles and dedicated toward purposefulness. The energy shift is accompanied by Mercury’s conjunction with the North Node in Capricorn and Mars in Sagittarius’s square to Uranus Rx in Pisces and sextile to Chiron in Aquarius, suggesting that we’ll be making concrete plans for the future with our focus on results and achievement, while the frenzy of our activities and the force of our truths push us into change and stimulate progress, thereby providing us with several chances to heal individual and collective wounds if we choose so.

  • December 5: New Moon at 13:28 Sagittarius at 12:35 pm EST, Uranus stations direct at 26:40 Pisces at 08:49 pm EST

At this seed moment and beginning of a new lunation cycle the energy potential for change and individualization/collectivization is concentrated and the process of shaping and reforming will from now on work more visibly and outwardly as the reorientation phase we underwent since July 5 has inspired revelations and thus the wish for release from bondage and inhibitions while we become advocates of our own cause. With all planets in forward motion for the next few days the flow of events and unfolding of multi-level potentialities is unhindered, thereby carrying the impulse of grandness to new heights, which allows us to spread our wings and aim high. Mercury is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Scorpio forms a sextile to the North Node in Capricorn, signifying mental resourcefulness as the outcome of a complex and evolved approach to be used as the foundation upon which to build our future prospects.

The Sabian Symbol pertaining to the zodiacal degree highlighted by the Sagittarius New Moon states:

“The great pyramid and the sphinx. Keynote: The enduring power of occult knowledge and of its quasi-divine custodians, ‘seed-men’ of a previous cycle of existence – THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL ANCESTRY.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Page 218)

Remembering our history and past achievements will assist us in doing our soul’s work and bringing a new cycle of accomplishment into existence, while at the same time erecting long-lasting structures that bear witness to the greatness of our mind and forming connections, which stand the test of time.

  • December 7: Mars ingress into Capricorn

This transit will last until January 15, 2011 and corresponds to a period during which we can realize and concretize our intentions through organizing, preparing, managing and executing activities. A sextile from the Sun in Sagittarius to Saturn in Libra that accompanies this shift indicates an opportunity for our growing sense of Self to evaluate our situation from a point of authority and increased Self-responsibility to gain more structure and deliver a better performance.

  • December 10: Mercury stations Rx at 05:56 Capricorn at 07:04 am EST (shadow period from November 22, 2010 – January 18, 2011)

Mercury retrograde periods are times to introspect and review. In Capricorn this is related to reorganizing, rescheduling, reformulating, recalculating and re-planning and continues in Sagittarius with re-aiming, redirecting and re-conceptualizing. The keynote of the Sabian Symbol pertaining to the zodiacal degree of Mercury’s station states: “The need to complete any undertaking before seeking entrance to whatever is to be found beyond – Threshold.” (Page 233) With Mercury just coming out of a conjunction with the North Node and Pluto in Capricorn, there is a need to lay down the single steps that will lead to the achievement of our future prospects and then review them while our viewpoint is transforming. As Mercury retraces his path we’ll have a chance to rework our ideas and schemes and to restructure our thought process based on an evolving and complex approach, indicated by Mercury’s sextile to Venus in Scorpio at the onset of this retrograde that is also accompanied by a semi-sextile between Chiron in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces, suggesting that elevation of consciousness and for this matter our individuation is a process that complements our progress in this regard.

  • December 13: First Quarter Moon at 21:27 Pisces/Sagittarius at 08:58 am EST, Mercury-Mars-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn

The crisis in action, associated with the First Quarter Moon, challenges us to not leap forward with blind faith and unawareness of the larger implications under the enormous push and extreme temptation of the powerful Mercury Rx-Mars-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Sitting back and listening, while attuning us to the flow in the atmosphere, will result in true understanding and restrain us from overreaching, thereby helping us to maintain our integrity and to remain true to our purpose as we let us guide by our highest ideals at this test of our will.

  • December 19: Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction at 28:02 Sagittarius at 08:23 pm EST

The inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury inaugurates the beginning of a new Mercury cycle, when the mental faculties will become impressed with a new quality of will that is aimed at purposefulness in long-term perspective. Other aspects reaching perfection that day are a semi-sextile between Mars in Capricorn and Vesta in Sagittarius, a quincunx between Juno in Virgo and Neptune in Aquarius and a semi-square between Mercury Rx in Sagittarius and Venus in Scorpio, emphasizing a systematic, effective energy investment in causes and projects in order to meet expectations and work on the realization of ideals.

  • December 20: Pallas ingress into Capricorn at 05:27 pm EST

This transit will last until March 10, 2011 and corresponds to a phase during which we focus on practicality, feasibility and results, using a structuring, organizing and executing mental strategy. Consequently, Mercury Rx in Sagittarius is involved in a tense t-square with Juno in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces that day, an indicator of considerable mental stress and excitement, which if channeled constructively through Mercury’s sextile to Chiron in Aquarius can stimulate a process of greater integration through individuation. Knowing that certain relationship dynamics we have employed don’t work, we have to change our methods and perceived image that pertains to our role in the larger scheme of things.

  • December 21: Total Lunar Eclipse at 29:20 Gemini/Sagittarius at 03:13 am EST, Sun ingress into Capricorn – Winter Solstice at 06:38 pm EST

A Lunar Eclipse is a special, supercharged Full Moon, which can only occur when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth align in close proximity to the Moon’s Nodes. While the Moon passes through the shadow cast by the Earth, which is in the case of a total Lunar Eclipse the umbra, the sunlight is directly absorbed by the Earth’s atmosphere and penetrates it deeply, before some remaining shades of this light can reach and illuminate the Moon. During the Eclipse the Moon’s disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown.

Full Moons mark the climax of the lunation cycle and signify times of illumination, portrayed in the Moon’s full reflection of the Sun’s light. Consequently, they represent the culmination of an issue or event or the end of a matter. With the Moon moving deep into the Earth’s shadow, we experience a psychological phenomenon, providing us with a chance to access psychic material and allowing for something buried within to be brought to the surface, which usually causes a surge of emotions with a potentially overwhelming effect. This can furthermore result in sudden awareness of things previously out of sight. It can become a catalyst for dramatic change. There might be a sense of finality or inevitability that especially stresses relationship dynamics, a factor explicitly expressed in the opposition between Juno in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces in the Full Moon chart, which calls for a role reversal that is triggered by a mental growth process (Mercury Rx in Sagittarius square Juno-Uranus opposition). In order for us to make progress and thus to become more efficient in the ways we interact and relate, our relationship principles must be upgraded to serve our interests as well.

The Full Moon/Total Lunar Eclipse on December 21, 2010, is the first to highlight the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. Therefore, its influence and impact might be felt for up to two years, a time during which we have to adapt to the new course we have been thinking about for a longer period. This is the third of five consecutive Full Moon events that will fall on the 29th degree of a sign polarity, which adds even more urgency and pressure, accompanied by a feeling of ‘now or never’. Because this cosmic event coincides with the Winter Solstice, it truly brings a turning point and important energy shift to a point ‘where the personal becomes political’ (Aries Point connection). A solstice is moreover a gateway of consciousness. Although Winter Solstice symbolizes relative lifelessness, it also represents the light within, the concealed, surviving spark of the life-force in the midst of darkness, which contains the seed potential for rebirth at spring. Energy-wise, this is a time of relative pause and stillness, giving us a chance to stop and take stock, to assimilate all that has been rapidly developing and to transition into a state of being that could be termed ‘stasis’. Winter is memory, when we lie low and hibernate, perceive the seeds of future growth to make our resolutions for the new year, gather intent and celebrate our togetherness and reunion.

With the Full Moon/Total Lunar Eclipse transpiring on this quarter day however, revelations and visions have already been stirred with the potential to point us in a future direction. Due to Mercury’s retrograde though, who also happens to be the ruler of this Full Moon, and square to Jupiter in Pisces, the dispositor of the Sun, concepts and knowledge need to be reviewed before we can leap ahead. Therefore, we have to sit with this for a while, seek more clarity and breadth of vision, go within and connect with our higher Self for guidance. Mercury Rx in Sagittarius is also engaged in a semi-sextile with Ceres in Capricorn and a sextile with Neptune in Aquarius, emphasizing that in order for us to gain perspective, in particular what our long-term objectives concerns, we need to step back and view the situation with realism as well as from a vantage point that allows our ideas to grow together with the unfolding of our potential, leading to the realization of our vision and purpose.

The Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 29:20 Gemini states:

“A parade of bathing beauties before large beach crowds. Keynote: The setting of social standards through personal excellence and competition – SHOW.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 29:20 Sagittarius states:

“The Pope, blessing the faithful. Keynote: The need to pay homage to traditional values upon which the invisible community of the spirit is built – PERSONALIZED WORSHIP.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Pages 109 and 227-228, respectively)

The course is set and the show can begin. In order to deliver a successful performance that impresses though, we need to demonstrate showmanship, which requires faith in ourselves and trust in our capabilities, we will be developing with each limiting belief we transcend while focusing on the possibilities available to us.

  • December 27: Third Quarter Moon at 06:18 Libra/Capricorn at 11:18 pm EST

The crisis in consciousness, associated with the Last Quarter Moon, is a test of judgment that challenges us to balance responsibilities and assess situations from a viewpoint of realism, reliability and necessity. Other aspects perfecting that day are Pallas’ conjunction with the North Node in Capricorn, Mercury Rx in Sagittarius’ semi-sextile to Venus in Scorpio and Ceres in Capricorn’s semi-sextile to Chiron in Aquarius, indicating a firm focus on our future prospects that requires guidance by higher principles and calls upon us to proceed with caution and intelligence.

  • December 30: Mercury stations direct at 02:20 am EST at 19:37 Sagittarius

With Mercury’s station direct we can now integrate the perspective we’ve gained over the last 3 weeks, especially what our long-term objectives concerns and plan for the future, using foresight and the knowledge we’ve acquired.

Tarot card for the month is “The Magician”, Magus or Juggler, a trump or Major Arcana card numbered 1. Above his head is the mysterious sign of the Holy Spirit, forming the lemniscate of infinity. About his waist is a serpent-cincture or girdle, the ouroboros, depicting the serpent devouring its own tail, a symbol of eternity and eternal becoming. In his right hand is a wand raised towards heaven or the element ether, while his left hand is pointing to the earth, demonstrating the ability of The Magician to bridge heaven and earth. This card suggests that we have the ability to act not react and the willpower to direct our energy in the direction we want it to go. We have four tools available to manifest our will: the sword of intellect, the wand of inspiration, the cup of emotion and the pentacle of practicality. It is time to approach our whole life situation with a new creative and original attitude. With self-confidence we will gain the knowledge and the ability to tackle the important issues that need to be dealt with so that success can be achieved.

Personal Note: With Mercury sextile Venus today and the Pallas-Juno square falling on my natal Pallas (also marking my Pallas return), I’m using the opportunity at the beginning of this new month to change my routine of blogging on a daily basis in order to be able to focus on my astrology business, which is in the sense of making my relationship dynamics more efficient (Juno in Virgo) so that they will also serve my interests. Thank you all, my dear friends and readers, for your contributions and loyalty. Your continuing support has made this endeavor truly worthwhile. Check in from time to time for new posts and enjoy the holiday season. 🙂
