Astro-Notes on March 20 & 21, 2014 – Spring Equinox

A semi-sextile between Venus in Aquarius and Pluto in Capricorn shows a value adjustment we had to make concerning our social circle or group purpose or even a situation where we took the liberty to do changes and this could have been met with disapproval. In any case, we have to draw from our resources and manage as good as we can to be able to master these circumstances. The Sun’s ingress to Aries at 12:57 pm EDT marked the Vernal Equinox and the beginning of spring here in the Northern Hemisphere. Day and night are of equal length today, poised and balanced, but about to tip over on the side of the light. This is reversed in the Southern Hemisphere, where now autumn begins. All solar festivals are quarter days in the wheel of the year that start a new season and are therefore relevant for the duration of it. However, the spring equinox can have influence over the entire year by revealing the trends that will ‘shoot up’ like the germs that pierce the harsh crust of the soil at this time of the year. The festival itself is sacred to dawn, the east, the morning star and to youth. Eostre (from whose name the direction East and the holiday Easter is derived) is a dawn goddess of the Saxons, like Aurora and Eos. Just as the dawn is the time of new light, so is the vernal equinox the time of new life. Holidays in March are dedicated to all the great fertility goddesses, who show themselves in the blossoms, the leaves on the trees, the sprouting of the crops, the mating of birds and the birth of young animals. In the agricultural cycle, it is time for planting. We are assured that life will continue. Consequently, the Sun’s transit through Aries corresponds to a time of emergence, “birth”, new beginnings and strong self-expression, when we feel the urge to initiate action on our behalf, to pioneer things and to conquer unchartered territories; when self-determination, impatience and willfulness are on the rise and when we are courageous, fierce and impulsive, even daring, as we’re pushing forward. During this period will we be strongly inclined to express our animus or the yang principle and thus show a tendency to act from an instinctual and primal level. However, with Aries’ ruler Mars in retrograde motion in Libra, actions will require to take others into consideration, intentions have to be reassessed and initiatives re-evaluated before we can make our moves. The Aries’ Sun instant quincunx to retrograde Ceres in Scorpio requires a review of shared values and resources in matters of support and which concern the maternal principle. For instance, at the start of this new season we’ve been drawn right back into winter and all this implies physically and psychologically.

Tarot card of the day is “Death”, marking an ending and the completion of a chapter or the concluding of unfinished business. We have a chance to put the past behind as we’re going through that which cannot be avoided, while accepting the inevitable and riding our fate.

Personal Note: I was running out of time and couldn’t post this blog anymore before I left for our manifestation workshop, where we created a vision board for the new astrological year ahead in a small circle. Even the kids wanted to participate and had lots of fun. It’s always amazing to see how the creative spirit is pouring out of them. So, this was the astro-weather for yesterday. Although it wasn’t an easy day and most of us might really have felt left to our own or ‘out in the cold’ (the harshness of a never-ending, brutal winter), the day ended on a joyful note as we were surrounded by people that do really matter and provide us with a sense of family or home (“Death” as Tarot card of the day).

Aries ingress 2014

Today now, the Moon will make ingress to Sagittarius at 11:38 am EDT, which could be elevating our mood and as a consequence, we might feel more optimistic as well as enthusiastic, especially if are able to let go off old grudges and just look at the bright side. A semi-sextile between Venus in Aquarius and Chiron in Pisces shows that our evaluation of our social purpose complements the wounding and healing principle and this is inspiring us to end a situation of uncertainty and victimization by not allowing it to affect our self-worth and sense of wellbeing.

Tarot card of the day is the 8 of Pentacles”, suggesting that we’re building on our previous successes, especially in regard to the work we’ve done in the past or the visions and dreams we’ve had. We need to be diligent, make an effort and plug away. Important is also in this regard to find out the facts, to increase our expertise, to check and recheck what we’re doing.
