Astro-Notes on April 29, 2014 – Taurus New Moon/Annular Solar Eclipse

The Taurus New Moon, which is an Annular Solar Eclipse, transpired at 2:14 am EDT this morning, setting the ‘tone’ for the next half year and, in some cases, even years to come. An annular eclipse of the Sun occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. However, the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the Sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the outline of the Moon. Thus, we don’t see a total occultation, instead our attention is captured by this ‘fiery’ circle of light that dominates the sky with its allure and is an ‘omen’, not only for things to come, but also in the sense of a ‘portal’, leading right into the ‘heart of darkness’. Things that have been eclipsed in the area of our life, represented by the house in our natal chart, where the Eclipse has an impact, have now a chance to be brought into the light of day/conscious awareness, triggering individual and collective transitions, marked by endings and new beginnings. Eclipses belong to a larger pattern or series; each Eclipse is a member of a family and each family has specific characteristics. The current Solar Eclipse is a member of the Saros Series 16 South, which means the Taurus New Moon/Solar Eclipse is conjunct the South Node of the Moon, a point of extraction that is triggering the release and filtering of accumulated energies. This Saros Series was the last time around in April 1996 and is close the degree highlighted by the Solar Eclipse of April 1995 (look for the common theme). It has Neptune on the New Moon/Node midpoint and Mars on the midpoint of Uranus and Neptune, for which Bernadette Brady gives the following interpretation:

“Under the influence of this family of eclipses, individuals will find themselves dealing with issues of wasted energy or misdirected motivation, particularly when dealing with groups. There can be sudden inspiration, but this is potentially unfulfilling. No real action should be taken.”

(Bernadette Brady, “Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark”, Appendices, Pages 331-332)

Whereas the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 8:51 Taurus states:

“A fully decorated Christmas tree. Keynote: The ability to create inner happiness in dark hours – FAITH IN CYCLIC RENEWAL.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolical Phases”, Page 76)

Implied by these symbolical messages is an unexpected turn of events, we weren’t prepared for and which could have left us bewildered or confused, but also more enlightened. However, intuitively we know, this is not as bad or disconcerting as it seems at first, instead it might just add to our disillusionment. Yet, at the same time we realize it is not worth to dwell on it. Life goes on and the new season, we’ve been awaiting with such eagerness and anticipation, holds its own promises.

Mercury in Taurus’s trine to retrograde Pluto in Capricorn together with his semi-sextile to Uranus in Aries show that this form of reorganizing and restructuring of routines (going back to old/used routines) is the result of a reviewed communication process, which led to these changes.

Tarot card of the day is the “Page of Pentacles”, a card that encourages us to begin putting those plans and actions in place that will ultimately lead us toward the fulfillment of our goals and dreams. It is time to start acting on all those grand ideas and concepts that have been brewing in our imagination. No matter what’ll take, we need to see the project through and work on the realization of our vision.
