– Moon ingress to Virgo at 12:58 pm EDT
– Mercury in Gemini trine Ceres Rx in Aquarius and semi-square Eris in Aries
– Venus in Leo quincunx Pluto Rx in Capricorn
Reaching its northernmost point from the equator, the Sun’s ingress to Cancer at 12:37 pm EDT yesterday marked the summer solstice and the beginning of summer. Consequently, here in the Northern Hemisphere, we experienced the longest day, whereas for the Southern Hemisphere it was the longest night and the start of winter. As the Sun seems to ‘stand still’ (sol sistere) high in the sky, we transition into ‘stasis’ and have a chance to pause, stop and take stock before fully committing ourselves to the new season. Individual development is at peak. There is liveliness and vibrancy as well as a re-gathering and refocusing of intent. A time of Self-nurturance and Self-growth, even Self-preservation, of sustaining our sense of Self, supporting and taking care of our center and core identity, is beginning now. As a quarter point in the wheel of the year, the summer solstice also brings a change in regard to the condition of the light, which will soon begin to wane. In the chart for this event (which reveals the ‘flavor’ of the new season), the Moon in the last degree of Leo (disposited by the Sun in the very first minutes of the sign Cancer – so, Moon and Sun are in mutual reception for this short moment of about 20 minutes) is engaged in the waning semi-square between retrograde Saturn in Scorpio and retrograde Pluto in Capricorn (with both planets in mutual reception) by casting a square to the former and a sesqui-quadrate to the latter. This implies that we have a last chance to review the circumstances and conditions affecting the state of our affairs and how they have evolved, whereby it is critical – even urgent – to consider the results of powerful ambitions together with investments toward establishing influence. There will be consequences, challenging our sense of pride and entitlement. Therefore, Venus in Leo’s quincunx to retro Pluto in Capricorn calls for a value adjustment, because in the pursuit of our personal desires and preferences we have to content with conditions beyond our control and thus have to accept our limitations. Although the weather forecast had called for thunderstorms and rain, it was a beautiful, sunny day. No doubt summer has arrived here. It is not only noticeable in the warmth of the air, but also in the sweet scents, the songs of the birds and the dance of the butterflies. I went out for a walk that led through the Avondale Cemetery (such a serene place that fits the Saturn-Pluto theme well) down to the river, walking under the shade of majestic trees and occasionally glancing at very old grave stones from times long gone by – before I even existed. The high grass was still wet, but this didn’t deter me. However, the farther along I got the worse the trail became until it almost completely disappeared. After a while I had to realize that the trail was not kept in shape – in fact, the small path was muddied from the torrential rains we have experienced the last few weeks and also overgrown. The nature enthusiast I am, I continued anyways, hoping that I can make it all the way to the bridge. Well aware of the special moment in time and the aspects that had formed in the skies, the thought popped up in my mind that I found myself on an ‘obstacle course’ and with all the changes in this natural environment that had happened since I was last there I simply couldn’t win in spite of my best efforts (Merc in Gemini trine Ceres Rx in Aquarius and semi-square Eris in Aries). And since I also got bitten by the mosquitoes, I had to keep moving and couldn’t stop for taking the scenery in or taking pictures. Once the Moon had made ingress to Virgo, I had turned around and walked back through the woods to avoid the mosquitoes. Once I had returned to the downtown area, I considered sitting down on a bench by the river with some great food and listening to the music from the Blues and Rib Festival. However, the best spots were taken and the lines were long. I also didn’t see any familiar faces. So, I marched on and then sat out on my balcony, where I started reading a new book with the title “Cruel Intent” and thought how appropriate for the astro weather, while recovering from my ‘itches’.
Tarot card of the day was the “5 of Pentacles”, which portrays a pilgrimage or a long journey taken as an act of faith or devotion. We can find the inner fortitude to persist in our quest and bolster ourselves, while resisting the temptation to succumb to ‘spiritual poverty’. It’s time to move on and to let us be guided by our soul’s ‘light’ or inner shining star. Moreover, in this context the card asks us to follow the high road during this process (detour) as we’re ‘recovering’ ground that has been transformed or is evolving. It’s a time of transitioning, after which we will feel renewed and empowered.
