Astro-Notes on March 8, 2016 – Pisces New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse

Daily aspects:
– Juno Rx in Scorpio trine Ceres in Pisces
– Ceres in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius
– Sun in Pisces opposite Jupiter Rx in Virgo and semi-sextile Uranus in Aries
– Pallas in Aquarius sextile Saturn in Sagittarius
– Total Solar Eclipse/New Moon at 18:55 Pisces at 8:54 pm EDT

A total eclipse of the Sun occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. However, the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence, the Sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the outline of the Moon. Therefore, we don’t see a total occultation; instead, our attention is captured by the ‘fiery’ circle of light that dominates the sky with its allure and is an omen not only for things to come as it is setting the tone for the next half year (or even longer in some cases), but also in the sense of a ‘portal’ that is leading right into the ‘heart of darkness’. Thus, things that have been eclipsed (or veiled, hidden) in the area of our life, represented by the house (or angle) in our chart, where the eclipse makes an impact, have now a chance to be brought into the light of conscious awareness (and this happens rather suddenly and surprisingly), triggering individual and collective transitions, marked by endings and new beginnings. Furthermore, eclipses belong to a larger pattern or series; each eclipse is a member of a family and each family has specific characteristics. The current Solar Eclipse is a member of the Saros Series 18 South, which means the Pisces New Moon/Solar Eclipse is conjunct the South Node of the Moon, a point of extraction, which is triggering the release as well as the filtering of accumulated energies.

This particular Saros Series was the last time around in February 1998 (look for a common theme). It has Jupiter in quincunx aspect to Venus and the North Node sits on the midpoint of New Moon/Neptune as well as the Venus/Saturn midpoint, for which Bernadette Brady gives the following interpretation:

“This family of eclipses is concerned with endings or separations. Thus, when it affects a chart, individuals will find themselves dealing with a parting. This parting can be anything from a friend traveling overseas and the saying of goodbyes to the ending of a relationship with a loved one, which could bring much anguish or grief. However, the pain of the separation is lessened by encountering new situations, which lead to very positive outcomes.”

(Bernadette Brady, “Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and The Lark”, Appendices, Page 334)

During the last few days did we come to a conclusion in regard to our review of our relationship principle or pattern of relating, which made us aware that a season in our life has come to an end and that it is time for us to move on from these circumstances to be able to start over, because our current options are not getting us near anywhere we want to be in our life or there’s a lack of opportunity or some other beneficent development we’re missing out on. In general, we can’t see how things could improve for us under these conditions. We seem to be caught in a vicious cycle from which there is only a temporary escape possible or worse, feel trapped in the wrong place in a set of circumstances that is limiting and curtailing. Therefore, correlating with Vesta’s ingress to Taurus, we dedicate us toward self-validation, personal wellbeing and wholesomeness. Moreover, we seek to cultivate a quality of life so that we can prosper and invest our energy in the things we value and hold sacred. However, it is essential that we remain flexible and adapt to the flow of things with all the mutable energy involved and at cross purpose in the eclipse chart. Although we may have a potential future prospect, a course or direction, possibility or option we’re focusing on, we still don’t know all the details or how the pieces of the bigger picture will fit together or if they will work out the way we hope and imagine. Many factors are uncertain or unknown, which means we have to keep our minds open and wait and see where the developments will take us. Only then can we really deal with the issue at hand and make a decision. In the meantime, we need to prepare ourselves as good as we can, reflect on the information we receive, choose from our options wisely and consult our superiors or other experts for advice.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 18:55 Pisces states:

“A master instructing his disciple. Keynote: The transfer of power and knowledge, which keeps the original spiritual and creative impulse of the cycle active and undeviated – INVESTITURE.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolical Phases”, Pages 280-281)

Suggested by the combined symbolical meanings of these statements is that an ‘office’ or ‘robe’ will be passed on, because of somebody being replaced, let go or leaving. Thus, we can say that the closing of a chapter of our life’s story has shaped and readied us for the next step we have to take on our journey, even if this is a leap of faith. Spring is in the air. Change is beckoning us and we understand that we have to act in our self-interests. It won’t be easy – it could even be painful as this concerns a wounding issue for which we seek closure and healing. Consequently, we must surrender and accept the unavoidable.

Tarot card of the day is the “Queen of Cups”, symbolizing a seeker of inner transformation who possesses a strong perspective and perceptive nature. Suggested is furthermore that we are acknowledging our emotions and feelings. We trust our intuition and listen to our inner voice as well as to the sensations and impressions we’re getting from our environment. In our interactions with others we need to empathize and show true compassion, helping people along their chosen pathway. This is a day when we’ll be following the lead of our heart.
