A lunar eclipse occurs when the Full Moon enters the Earth’s shadow. Since the Moon ‘shines’ only by reflecting light from the Sun, the Full Moon seems to disappear when it is eclipsed. Depending on which part of the Earth’s shadow the Full Moon passes through (which depends on how close the Full Moon is to the lunar nodes), a lunar eclipse can be one of three main types. In the situation, where the Moon misses the umbra entirely and only enters the penumbra (either grazing it or being completely immersed in it), an appulse or penumbral eclipse is formed, which only dims the Moon’s surface slightly. In fact, the casual observer might not even notice this kind of eclipse since the change in appearance is so subtle. The astrological impact of an appulse Eclipse is far from subtle, however. It is a supercharged Full Moon and this one is even more so because the Sun and Mercury also meet for their superior conjunction, which corresponds to the Full Moon phase in their synodic cycle. So, plans laid out in mid January regarding structure, organization, ambitions, career, control, management and authority could be coming to a head during negotiations and meetings or in other settings.
The current state of affairs is that spring has sprung here in the Northern Hemisphere, but winter isn’t quite done with us yet. This is the same with every seasonal change. It won’t happen overnight, only gradually, which means, we’re undergoing a time of transition and that applies to every area of our lives. Therefore, things are still uncertain and intangible, while we don’t know where to go from here, but have to wait and see. And although a relationship situation is over or has ended and there is no turning back to how it used to be, we don’t have the answers or solutions yet for our specific set of circumstances.
Thus, as the Pisces New Moon (Solar Eclipse) culminates in the Libra Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, the impulse that sounded forth at the time of the Libra New Moon on October 12 last year will also come to fruition and so will the mental impulse from January 14 (the day of the inferior conjunction of Sun and Mercury in Capricorn). Consequently, ‘the master instructing his disciple’ (Sabian Symbol for the Pisces New Moon) and also ‘the rabbi performing his duties’ (Sabian Symbol for the Libra New Moon from October 12) have succeeded with the ‘In-spiriting’ of ‘a group of young people, who are sitting in spiritual communion around a campfire’ (Sabian Symbol for the Libra Full Moon). As a result, the ‘commitment to this transcendent goal’ (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury) has led to a ‘progressive polarization of our energies needed to fulfill our life’s functions’ (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the Aries Sun).
The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon at 3:17 Libra states:
“Around a campfire a group of young people sit in spiritual communion. Keynote: The necessity to unite with kindred spirits as one enters unbeaten paths illumined by the still insecure light of a dawning intuition of new values – IN-SPIRITING the group.”
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 3:17 Aries states:
“Two Lovers strolling on a secluded walk. Keynote: The progressive polarization of energies needed for fulfilling one’s life function – POLARIZATION.”

Suggested by these symbolical images is that the initial spark has become a fire that is burning strong in the hearts of the ‘faithful’ and the like-minded it unites, but the values they are sharing and the things they are holding sacred could polarize or antagonize others to a point that tips the scales and thus has the potential to escalate the conflict that’s been brewing for a while now. In any case, emotions will be running high and whatever transpires or develops from this will affect us deeply. Moreover, we long to break the cycle of suffering, loss and helplessness and dedicate ourselves toward these ends.
Tarot card of the day is “Strength”, suggesting that we draw upon our inner strength and the power of our spirit and will. With compassion and understanding can we handle the most difficult situation and also tame the beast within. We have the ability to be tolerant, forgiving and accepting and thus can gently influence our environment. Furthermore, we can be assured that we have enough endurance to see things through to their end and get a lot accomplished.
