The first Full Moon of this year falls in the clinging, caring and emotive sign Cancer, thereby highlighting the parental archetypes (Cancer and Capricorn) in a complementary or contradictory manner, while at the same time squaring the Uranus-Eris-Ceres conjunction in Aries and Jupiter in Libra in a Grand Cross configuration, and casting a quincunx to the Juno-Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius. This is a highly complex and stressful aspect pattern that not only brings things to a climax, but also leaves us divided – either within ourselves or our relationships – and torn about the issues at cross-purpose, while at the same time pushing our buttons, forcing us to pull ourselves up by our boot-straps and challenging us to face the controversies and conflicts of interest on the social scene we might encounter or helped to create, all of which is consequential to our long-term interactions with others.

With our self-interests at stake and far from succeeding, we’re finding ourselves at discord or even at the losing end, because we’re struggling to make it in a highly competitive, ruthless and even hostile environment, where progress seems to be hard to achieve or out of our reach, necessitating us to properly evaluate our options from personal and professional viewpoints and also from different angles, whereby we cannot lose sight of the fact that we need to protect ourselves or stand up for ourselves and for what we believe in, although that might not sit well with others. It could also be us who have to make adjustments in regard to perspective and approach, in particular in view of the larger picture.

Therefore, if we feel as though we failed or are being defeated, we could be easily taking a defensive stance and react negatively, disagreeable, uncooperative or obstructive. However, we have to realize that this will only worsen the situation and won’t help us in the long run. Instead, understanding where we have erred will help us to change course. Moreover, we have to increase our expertise and sense of structure so that we can grow into the role or position we want to fill. Also, we need to give things more time to develop, especially what our interactions with others concerns so that we will be adequately prepared when the right opportunity comes along in order to gather or provide support.

In addition to the Juno-Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius that signifies the relationship goals we aim for, Venus is forming a conjunction with Neptune in Pisces and Pallas another one with the South Node in Pisces. This shows a strong emphasis on past vulnerabilities, disappointments, uncertainties and unfulfilled expectations to which we could respond in an oversensitive, disillusioned or ignorant fashion. The more important is it to become aware when we resort to the line of least resistance or to patterns, which keep us victimized, self-undoing and trapped in the past. In fact, if we seek to gain control over these conditions, we have to break out of our shell and away from the past, the familiar and the traditional way of taking care of our affairs.

This requires from us to stop looking for excuses and instead getting our stuff together, tackle our problems one at a time, summon our courage and act as if we are in charge of our life and then we will succeed. It’s time to release the sorrows, sync our dreams with reality and get in touch with our vision.

As the Capricorn lunation cycle culminates with the Cancer Full Moon, the impulse that sounded forth at the time of the Cancer New Moon on July 4 of last year will also come to fruition. Thus, ‘the domesticated birds that sing joyously in a sun-lit home’ (Sabian Symbol for the Capricorn New Moon) have led to ‘the meeting of a literary society’ (Sabian Symbol for the Cancer Full Moon) – the wholeness and happiness that results from accepting our lot in life unreservedly (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the Capricorn New Moon) has not only uplifted our spirit, but also taken our mind to the next level by giving way to ‘intellectualization’ or ‘an objective and critical approach to common factors in our culture’ (keynote and keyword of the Sabian Symbol for the Cancer Full Moon), whereas ‘the prominent thumb held out for study’ (Sabian Symbol for the Cancer New Moon from July), revealing the ‘character’ (keyword of the Sabian Symbol for the Cancer New Moon) of the person it belongs to has yielded fruits in the form of ‘recompense‘ (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the Capricorn Sun), or, in other words, the reward will be worth the struggles we’ve been enduring and lived through.

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon at 22:27 Cancer states:

“The meeting of a literary society. Keynote: An objective and critical approach to the common factors in our culture and to its psychological problems – INTELLECTUALIZATION.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 22:27 Capricorn states:

“A soldier receiving two awards for bravery in combat. Keynote: The reward offered by society for the fulfillment of individual responsibility – RECOMPENSE.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolical Phases”, Pages 125-126 and 243, respectively)

The symbolical imagery suggests our culture and civility indeed is being sustained by the effort, determination and courage of individuals who are not afraid to fight for our common cause and the things we have achieved as a society or the foundations our society is build on. This is the legacy of a person whose deeds will be recorded in history books as an acknowledgment of their service for everything we stand for. An excellent example is provided by U.S. President Barack Obama, who is stepping down from the highest office (Capricorn) of the country (Cancer) after 2 terms (the 2 awards mentioned in the Sabian Symbol), while his successor is already caught in the ‘cross-fire’ of his affairs. To each his own. Thus, for us it means to step up to the plate and take care of our business in a constructive and productive way that fosters cooperation, mindfulness and intellectual discourse.

Meanwhile, Mercury re-entered Capricorn this morning at 6:03 am PST, where he will traverse until February 7, which corresponds to a period when our focus is on professional communication and business contacts, on managing schedules and on organizing papers and documents as well as on the execution of our plans.

Tarot card of the day is the “Knight of Cups”, symbolizing that we’re full of zeal as we serve our desires. We’re on a journey of imagination and creativity, where our idealism and love principle will be put to a test. Therefore, we’ll have to follow our heart in order to find our path.
