The New Year starts with the Moon’s ingress to Cancer, her home sign, that will lead to the lunation cycle’s culmination tonight. This means a heightened emotional, sensitive and domestic influence will be felt throughout the year that asks us to reconcile the maternal, nurturing archetype with the paternal, structuring archetype.
Consequently, issues revolving around home, family, support, roots, dependency, belonging, bonding, caring and nourishing will confront themes concerning resistance, limitation, obligation, control, self-reliance, authority, boundaries, foundations, ambitions, harshness, achievements etc. and this will come to a head, whereby we will have to face whatever is conflicting us in this context and needs to be worked out, balanced or resolved and integrated.

With Mars in Scorpio squaring the nodal axis across Leo/Aquarius, we’re challenged to ‘evolve’ in regard to the manner we act or react, pursue our desires, approach and conquer, if we want to create the life or future we have set our intentions on and this requires that we change, reform or upgrade patterns from the past that mess with our motives and modus operanti. However, this is a tricky, complex and complicated matter.
Therefore, the Sun’s sextile to Neptune offers us a chance to become aware of our self-undoing by working on our self-image and shaping our character or traits we’ve formed over the years. A square from retrograde Ceres to Pluto-ruled Jupiter tests our deep-seated beliefs, convictions and principles in this regard, because they have a way of preventing us from showing love or feeling self-love, demonstrating self-confidence and worthiness, validating and caring for ourselves or on the other hand we could be forced to acknowledge when we’re being too selfish or self-centered – all of which depends on our ‘personal truth’ or the ‘deeper motives’ that drive us. These themes have to be reviewed and refocused on.

Mercury’s semi-sextile to Pluto shows an attitude adjustment that helps us to get to the bottom of this and take charge over our affairs. As the Sagittarius lunation cycle climaxes in the Cancer Full Moon, the impulse that sounded forth at the time of the Cancer New Moon back on June 23 also comes to fruition.
In the symbolical words of the Sabians we get the following story: ‘A sculptor at work’ (Sabian Symbol for the Sag NM) has turned into ‘a Chinese woman, nursing a baby whose aura reveals him to be the reincarnation of a great teacher’ (Sabian Symbol for the Cancer FM) – thus we can say, ‘the sculptor’s self-projection into a work’ (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the Sag NM) has resulted in a ‘revelation’ that shows ‘the latent worth of an experience once it is seen in its deeper meaning’. Accordingly, ‘the man bundled in fur leading a shaggy deer’ (Sabian Symbol for the Cancer NM from June), who has his ‘will tested’ while overcoming stagnation and cold during this long trial of endurance’ (keynote of the Sabian Symbol for the Cancer NM) has underwent this experience to ‘be able to explore unfamiliar realms, thereby discovering the laws underlying the complex processes of nature as illustrated by a lecture on natural science’ (Sabian Symbol and keyword for the Capricorn Sun). The suggestion here is that once we uncover the ‘laws underlying our nature’ the ‘great work’ of forming the personality or Self into ‘a piece of art’, an ideal we conceived and need to express, can be done.

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon at 11:37 Cancer states:

“A Chinese woman nurses a baby whose aura reveals him to be the reincarnation of a great teacher. Keynote: The revelation of latent worth in an experience once it is seen in its deeper meaning – REVELATION.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 11:37 Capricorn states:

“An illustrated lecture on natural science reveals little-known aspects of life. Keynote: The ability to explore unfamiliar realms and discover the laws underlying the complex processes of nature – EXPLORATION.”

Uranus, who has been in retrograde motion since August 4th, is about to station direct in Aries in semi-sextile aspect to Chiron in Pisces. Since then we’ve been reviewing the changes we’ve initiated and the new trends we introduced or what we needed to do for the sake of our survival and individualization. The insights we gained will serve as inspiration to bridge unresolved issues, become whole and healthy and turn endings into new beginnings.

Cancer FM 2018

Tarot card of the day and for the year ahead is the “10 of Cups” (a completion card corresponding to the Full Moon theme), suggesting that we’re calling a truce and restoring harmony where it is needed. We’re working for peace and reaffirming our commitment to bonds. Thus, we create an atmosphere where we can relax, while reducing stress and tensions, and consequently have a chance to experience serenity and contentment. Generally, we can be more at ease. This card is reflective of our personal value system and of what we believe will bring us the ultimate fulfillment and happiness in life.

Happy New Year 2018!
