Astro-Notes on December 29, 2020 – Cancer Full Moon

The Sagittarius lunation cycle that started out with a Solar Eclipse on December 14th culminates in the Cancer Full Moon tonight at 7:28 pm PST, highlighting patterns of the past and of conditioning against the backdrop of practicality, competence and organization. Moreover, matters concerning home, family, tradition, care, support, dependency and nurturance versus work, authority, responsibility, structure, achievements, limitations, systems and control could be coming to a head. They could be revealing where safety, protection and care is lacking.

A semi-square from Venus in Sagittarius to Jupiter in Aquarius on which she follows up with a square to Neptune in Pisces indicate that it is important to consider different options and to change our perspective, convictions or beliefs, if necessary, especially when we experience disappointments, when our desires and needs are left unfulfilled, when our expectations or ideals aren’t met, when gratification is delayed or when we feel we are being left out or missing out on something we want.

With Vesta in Virgo squaring the nodal axis across Gemini/Sagittarius, it’s easy to find fault when things don’t go our way. However, we need to realize this is a very busy time and show some understanding and tolerance, instead of being overly critical or judgmental. In order to be efficient and serve our causes, we need to learn how to better adapt to the situation without overdoing or overdramatizing things.

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon at 8:53 Cancer states:

“A small, naked girl bends over a pond, trying to catch a fish. Keynote: The first naïve quest for knowledge and for an ever-elusive understanding of life – PURITY IN UNDERSTANDING.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 8:53 Capricorn states:

“An angel, carrying a harp. Keynote: The revelation of the spiritual meaning and purpose at the core of any life situation – ATTUNEMENT to the rhythm of universal life.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolical Phases”, Pages 115-116 and 235, respectively)

Suggested by these symbolical images is that sophistication and grace are the result of years of practice, learning, commitment and dedication.

Tarot card of the day is the “10 of Swords”, suggesting that we may feel victimized and powerless or just ‘dead tired’ and exhausted, wishing for a clean break from a stressful issue. However, this is the final ordeal, presenting us with a confrontation of the sum total of our thoughts and outcome of mental processes. Thus, a reorientation or gaining of perspective might ensue and things might get better from now on. It is important though to let go off negative attitudes and to accept our current circumstances. Something is coming to an end and change is impending. The worst is over and the only way is up.

Astro-Notes on December 14, 2020 – Total Solar Eclipse/Sagittarius New Moon

A new lunation cycle begins today at 8:16 am PST in the expansive, enterprising, Jupiter-ruled sign Sagittarius. Thus, it is a good time to set intentions that center around our aspirations, mission, faith, beliefs, convictions, perspective, views, options and aims, to reach out and beyond, expand our horizons, search for truth and meaning, develop long-time goals and focus on the bigger picture.

Because this New Moon is also a Total Solar Eclipse, it is very powerful and potentially life-changing. It will set the ‘tone’ for the next half year and, in some cases, even years to come. A total eclipse of the Sun occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. However, the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun, as seen from our viewpoint here on Earth. Therefore, the Sun’s light is still visible in form of a very bright ring, or annulus, that is surrounding the outline of the Moon. Thus, we don’t see a total occultation, instead the sky turns dark and casts shadows over the landscape, the hues of which seem to be ‘otherworldly’, while our attention is captured by the ‘fiery’ circle of light that dominates the sky with its allure and can be taken as an ‘omen’, opening a ‘portal’ to another ‘dimension’ that is leading right into the ‘heart of darkness’.

During eclipse season the pace of things accelerates, while we’re approaching a turning point that has the potential to either increase or diminish our light. In any case, it is a ‘reset’.

Things that have been eclipsed in the area of our life, represented by the house in our natal chart, where the Eclipse has an impact, now have a chance to be brought into the light of conscious awareness or at least to receive enormous attention, triggering individual and collective transitions, marked by endings and new beginnings.

An Eclipse is a pattern-setting event and is a member of a family with specific characteristics. The current Solar Eclipse is a member of the Saros Series 4 South, which means the Solar Eclipse is conjunct the South Node of the Moon, a point of extraction, which is triggering the release as well as the filtering of accumulated energies.

This Saros Series was the last time around on December 4 2002. What was happening in your life then and how could this relate to events unfolding now?

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon/Solar Eclipse at 23:08 Sagittarius states:

A blue bird perched on the gate of a cottage. Keynote: The reward which meets every effort at integration into a social environment for those who remain true to their own selves – GOOD FORTUNE.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolical Phases”, Page 224)

DR elaborates: “A cottage is normally part of a community, and the implication is that its inhabitants are well-adapted, either to the life of the community, or to their more or less isolated togetherness. It suggests that the essential technique for successful living is the development of a consciousness in which peace and happiness dwell.”

This statement reflects our current situation under quarantine restrictions and pandemic protocols well. We are encouraged to use this time of isolation and small gatherings to return in heart, mind and soul to the true spirit of Christmas and the development of ‘Christ consciousness’ by embracing simpler values, counting our blessings, appreciate what we have, do with less and let go of excesses.

It is certainly noticeable that this eclipse precedes the ‘great conjunction’ of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, which symbolizes the end of an era as the result of the breaking down of old systems, outdated economic models and departure from a way of life that is has become unsustainable – all of which will lead to a new world order.

Tarot card of the day is the “3 of Cups”, representing wonderful connections and the celebration of friendship and harmonious relationships in general. It heralds a sociable day when we spend quality time with friends and loved ones and experience camaraderie as well as a feeling of oneness. We could be bursting with energy and overflowing with high spirits. Things should be going well.
